About the Car

The McLaren 688 MSO HS is an extremely limited-production, track-focused version of the McLaren 675LT built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) in 2016. As the “High Sport” variant of the already beloved 675LT, it represents the ultimate evolution of McLaren’s P11 platform, following the same HS philosophy previously seen only on the ultra-rare MP4-12C HS. It features plenty of aerodynamic updates, including a large P1 GTR-inspired rear wing with an airbrake function, dive planes, and front wing louvers. The car’s name refers to its 688 metric horsepower (679 bhp), an increase of 13 bhp over the 675LT, and it boasts a lightweight carbon fibre chassis, P1 racing seats, and a functional roof snorkel for enhanced engine induction.

This LHD example is finished in HM Carbon Blue, a one-off design completed for its first and only custodian in the Middle East; this specific 688 MSO HS was involved in a prominent Mclaren collection, matching a one-of-a-kind P1 in which we recently sold.

Specification

This MSO HS, exclusively for sale with AK Collectibles, is finished in “HM Carbon blue”, featuring Pacific Colour Stream Carbon Fibre throughout the bodywork. The car is a one-of-a-kind specification, exclusively made for its first custodian in the Middle East, and featuring very slim mileage to keep it ready for use, yet also in collector-grade condition for the future proud owner. With only 25 production cars and two prototypes built, the McLaren MSO HS is one of the rarest and most sought-after models to leave the Woking factory in the last two decades. Each example was personally approved by McLaren Special Operations and delivered in a fully bespoke specification like the one offered, giving the HS immediate collector status.

The MSO HS features significant aerodynamic upgrades inspired by the P1 and GTR version, including an imposing high-mounted rear wing with airbrake function, redesigned front end, dive planes and louvred wings, together producing 220kg of downforce at 150mph. Its blueprinted and hand-finished 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers 679bhp (688 PS), with unrestricted torque in all modes for a more engaging drive on both road and track. The result is a highly focused yet surprisingly usable car as said by many lucky owners, regarded by collectors as the definitive and final expression of the platform.

This example also features a rare 24K Gold heat shield option, reminiscing to the Mclaren F1 design from the early years. As standard the MSO HS incorporated the MSO Roof Scoop – a functional roof-mounted induction air inlet only made available to the most important of MSO clients. The roof scoop transformed the aural drama of the car, giving it P1 like qualities in a truly more exclusive production car.

On the inside, the car features Carbon Black alcantara to compliment the exterior simply, with purple stitching throughout. Other details for this example include matching Pacific Colour Stream switches on the interior, with a complimentary “MSO HS” key to match.

History

This remarkable 688 MSO HS benefits from a distinguished and highly personal delivery experience. Commissioned by a dedicated McLaren enthusiast, the car was handed over at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) – a privilege reserved for the brand’s most valued clients. This exclusive moment at McLaren’s architectural and engineering headquarters underscores the significance of the car and the close connection between its first owner and the marque.

Following its introduction, the car was dispatched from the UK directly to the Middle East, where it has remained in Dubai as part of a prominent single-owner collection. Maintained in exceptional condition and preserved with evident care, this MSO HS stands today as one of the finest examples of the ultra-limited High Sport series, exclusively available with AK Collectibles.

Now offered publicly for the first time, it awaits its next custodian; someone who recognises not only its rarity and performance pedigree, but also the provenance that elevates 688 MSO HS beyond the ordinary 675LT.
